The Center for Pattern Recognition and Data Mining was created on April 5th, 2005 by a group of professors from the Computer Science Department of the School of Mathematics and Computer Science at the Universidad de Oriente. The goal of this center is to conduct basic and applied research on Pattern Recognition and its application to Data and Text Mining.

Current research includes the development of algorithms for processing large volumes of structured and textual information. Besides, the center offers postgraduate courses and a special track on Pattern Recognition as a part of the Universidad de Oriente's master's program on Computer Science.
